About Miguel Lantigua

Multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, and producer Miguel Lantigua is known best as the bandleader, singer, and guitarist for the St Petersburg, Fl., based rock band Tropico BLVD.

Born in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, Lantigua started playing music at the age of 12 playing at church bands and in local small groups until focusing on painting. After attending Ringling College in Sarasota in 2007, Miguel began playing in local jam and blues bands in the area. In 2010 he moved to New York City to join the jam band Gypsy Trane and later joined the local Phish tribute band The Lawn Boys.

These were incredibly formative years in Lantigua’s musical career as he got to play for many local groups on bass and guitar, even playing bass for H.R. of Bad Brains for a short regional college tour. Miguel has performed live on the radio on Howard Stern on Sirius XM and has played a sold-out show with the Talking Heads tribute band Start Making Sense.

At the same time, he was also producing his own original music and a demo found its way to producer Dan Griggsby (Dave Matthews Band, Joe Cocker) who offered some studio time to record some songs, Miguel took that time to record drums for the first Tropico BLVD LP It’s Gonna Be A Good Day and finished it back in St Petersburg with the help of the young producer Daniel Mayer.

As 2016 came and went, with newfound direction and inspiration, he reformed his band Tropico Blvd with an entirely new roster and identity. Whereas before Tropico Blvd was primarily Lantigua’s backing band, the new lineup is completely collaborative with all members providing input and having a hand at writing material. As of 2019, Tropico Blvd is performing all over the Tampa Bay area, recording their full-length album Neighborhood Watch with plans to tour the state and beyond.

He is currently writing and producing for many artists in the area as well as performing live all over the Tampa Bay area.
